A Brief  History of the P3 Building.

THE PURCHASE
In June 1998 P3 Computers finalised the purchase of their current premises at Healey Wood Road in Burnley.

A 19200 square foot Grade 2 listing building the building was in a state of disrepair after being empty for around 10 years since the last occupants - James Hargreaves Plumbers Merchants made their move to Todmorden Road. It is believed that at the time that the Salvation Army were interested in purchasing the building.  After many hours of meetings and discussions, designs and re-designs, input from the various interested bodies - planning etc. work finally commenced on turning around the look of the building in late June 98.  Originally scheduled for completion at the end of October 98, it was actually January 99 before the building was finally fit and the workforce could transfer from the previous premises in nearby Rosegrove.

THE EARLY STAGES
The first stages were to clear debris left by the previous occupant and toremove all the existing partitions and services. This proved to be a bigger task than was initially expected.

Straight after the clear-out the joiners were involved in installing a false floor above the original floor - this for two reasons:
a) the floor was uneven, and even sloping in several areas;
b) because of the nature of the floor and the buildings listed status, which was to become a constant thorn in the redevelopment, to install the various cabling and services would contravene regulations.

SANDBLASTING, POINTING AND RENOVATING
Not long after the first of the big tasks were undertaken, the next task was to renovate the existing stonework. This involved the removing of existing pointing, sandblasting (twice!) the internal stonewalling and ceiling/beams, then re-pointing the stonework.

This whole process took in excess of a week, and already the work was behind schedule, soon after we were able to get the joiners, plumbers and electricians in to carry out their respective tasks.

The next major task was the removal of the old windows, which were well beyond the point of no return.  These had to be replaced by hand crafted wooden window frames, which matched the originals exactly to satisfy the planning dept.  New stud partitions were installed to form the workshop, meeting room, kitchen & WC areas, and the entrance vestibule.
